Rice and fries

Visited this cute restaurant with my monday buddy :) What a cute name right - Rice and fries! And the funny thing is that it has not many dishes with rice and fries. Nevertheless, decided to give it a go :)

The place is quite pretty, for a cafe in the middle of nowhere. And extremely quiet. We were the only patrons in the shop at 7pm. Maybe that's why the service was so good. The waitress serving us was really friendly, giving us recommendations on what food we should try and being very helpful.

Surprisingly, they serve new zealand natural's ice cream in their shop! And it's cheaper then eating at a nzn stall too :x There's limited flavours though, they did't have my favorite flavor - Hokey Pokey.

Ahh, the famous mushroom cappuccino soup. When the waitress said that this was the soup of the day, my friend and I had the same exact thought " Is there really coffee in the soup?" Really embarrassing, but to our disappointment (or relief?), it was the foam that the waitress was referring to. The soup was delious though. There was real garlic bread slices in the soup and the mushroom taste was neither too strong or too mild. PERFECT. Since we shared one bowl of soup, we were both left yearning for more. Oh well, at least it's a reason to go back again!

My friend had the spicy prawn aglio olio that the waitress recommended. I am not so much of a prawn fan, but my friend did comment that the prawns were not fresh. bummer. It did not live up to it's name though. I personally felt that it was tastsless.Maybe it's because I've recently been introduced to a place with exceptionally tasty pasta where one can choose the level of spiciness. I usually go for three chilli padis, that my friends, is truly satisfying for a spicy lover. One day I will try the fourth level of spiciness.

I had the fish and chips. Looks are deceiving! It looks nicer then it actually tastes. The portions also look smaller then it actually is. However, on the whole, it was too bland for my taste. And the thick cut fries was too potatoey ( if there's even sucha word).

Ahh, now desserts! The best part of the meal. I would have to say, the waffles are one of a kind. The maple syrup is kinda infused into the waffle such that sweetness bursts into your mouth with every bite. And the waffles, unlike other waffles, is crisp and not floury. We had the pomegranate ice cream which went really well with the waffle. A mixture of sour and sweet. The portion is too small though. I really wanted more of the waffle. And ice cream... I have come to the conclusion that one can never have enough desserts.

The mains are too pricy for a small cafe in the middle of nowhere, ranging from 9.80 to 24.90. But the soup and waffle is to die for. But then again, there is no gst and service charge. And the service is really commendable. Go to this cafe if you prefer quiet dinners where you can chill and slack for prolonged periods of time. And its pretty much the only decent cafe I've seen that is ideal for one to just chill and relax in bedok. Quite a hidden gem.
