I've never been into politics and I never will be.
I was having a random conversation with my bestie about about the free transport in early mornings so that the number of commuters will be lesser. And we came to the conclusion that the government always talk big but never implements policies that is not beneficial to them. What will they gain from giving commuters free transport? It is for the comfort of the people but the government gains nothing. Together with the idea to allow early going commuters to get time off work so that they do not work longer hours, the government has to change policies and revise many plans which is a hassle. So will this free transport really come to pass?
So this whole thing was triggered because LTA wanted to increase transport prices. While I'm glad that at least someone is doing something for the good of the people, but think about it, we citizens really have no say over such things. Even if we are extremely upset about the raise in transport costs (AGAIN), we still have to take public transport. COE prices are ridiculous now and the cost of driving is simply too high for a great percentage of the population. Even though there is votings, the promises made during votings also seldom come to pass. It is all forgotten after the hot period of the voting. It just upsets me that we citizens do not have a place to voice out. Even if we do, we are never heard and no action is ever taken even though we are a democratic society.
I am not saying that our government is entirely bad though. I would say the government has done an excellent job bringing the country to this stage, but there is always room for improvement. And if nothing is done, one day the unhappiness of the nation will be too much to bear and who knows what will happen then?
