Went to this super chic restrurant the day before valentines day. After having heard so much about P.S. Cafe, I finally got a chance to try it. Because of this restuarant, I stepped into palais renaissance shopping mall for the first time. Wanted to go to the one at Ann Siang Hill more because the ambience seemed nicer, but Ordchard was more convenient.
Stepped in and saw the display of cakes. YUMMY. Desserts are a necessity man.
We were a group of 5 girls and were not very big eaters, so we decided to order one soup and three mains. Shortly after our order was taken, a waiter came over and told us that we needed to have at least 5 food orders. Personally I feel that that is an outrageous request. Each main is like $25-$30 on average and we are all not very well off. But even if we were super rich, who are they to stop us from sharing our food and not causing food wastage??
Nevertheless, we had to make another food order and in the end we decided to go with truffle fries, soup and three mains.
So here is our appetizer! Truffle fries, my current favourite comfort food. It came in a huge plate, but it should be, seeing that we pay $15 for fried potatos with seasoning. I suppose it was cooked upon request, because it came to us hot and crispy. The seasoning was scattered on he top and some of the fries I ate had no seasoning at all. But towards the bottom, the seasoning was so much it was really salty. Personally I very much prefer the truffle fries at the coastal settlement, where the flavour is really ingrained in every fry.
Next, the portabello mushroom soup. Not to my liking at all. It was slightly bitter and the taste of the mushroom was super strong. None of my other friends found it amazing either and was the last item on the table to be finished. The bread was alright, like normal bread that can be found in a bakery.
Finally, the main course. The fish with barley and bacon in white sauce. I am not a fan of fish since I choked on a fish bone when I was 10. Hence, I don't have much comments. I would say that the portion is minute for a $40 dish. I suppose that's what you get for fine dining. I had one bite of the fish and it was soft, but "siap siap" I have no idea what that is in english. The bacon and barley was good though. I never knew barley could be used in a dish and not as a drink.
P.S chicken in a basket. Normalllllll!!! Just like something you can find in a regular western restaurant. Not particularly nice and once again, small portions!
Highlight of the day: Ribeye with baked potato and salad. The meat was super tender I admit and the marination was super nice. The sauce was drizzled above the meat and was perfect. Not too salty and not too tasteless. Mmm. But what you see is what you get. Only that small piece of ribeye was all we got. Shared among 5 ppl, we each only got 1-2 pieces. Not enough to sastify anyone.
We wanted to get dessert, but apparently the desserts didn't appeal to us enough and we decided to head to antoniette to sastify our sweet tooth.
I would say that this will most probably be the first and last time I visit P.S. cafe. I think most people go more for the ambience rather then the food. Or perhaps the drinks. We didn't have any drinks other then plain water so I wouln't know if it's good enough to bring patrons back.
